I had a positive experience throughout the interview process at Klaviyo. The recruiter was especially outstanding, keeping me updated promptly and even scheduling a prep meeting for the final round. Their support truly set a gold standard for what recruiters should aspire to, and Klaviyo is fortunate to have them.
Unfortunately, I was not selected as I did not achieve a passing score, having come close but ultimately falling short in both technical rounds. This was unexpected, particularly because my first technical interview with the senior engineer went well. We had a productive discussion, and I successfully identified and fixed several flaws in the code. The conversation even touched on logistics, like commuting to the office, which felt encouraging.
In the second technical collaboration, I encountered an issue where the web IDE highlighted a syntax error that eventually corrected itself. Whether this was due to lag or an issue with the IDE, I’m not sure, but it did add some confusion. I don’t recall if I fully completed the solution, but I believed I had performed well enough to pass.
Overall, while the outcome wasn't what I hoped for, I appreciated the interactions with everyone involved. The professionalism and support I received, especially from my recruiter, made this a worthwhile experience.
2nd Interview:
Several months after my initial application, I applied for a different role at Klaviyo and scheduled a call with another recruiter. Unfortunately, this experience was quite different from my first. The second recruiter came across as low-energy and uninterested, with a tone of voice that made it seem like he wasn't fully engaged in the conversation. He appeared unprepared, as if he was reading my resume for the first time during our call.
I explained that I had previously gone through the interview process but was ultimately rejected. After taking a few minutes to look up my information, he apologized for wasting my time and informed me that I would not be eligible for the new role. He mentioned that the hiring manager would likely reject my application based on my previous performance and added that many candidates pass the technical rounds, which came across as rude and condescending.
Overall, this interaction was disappointing, especially in contrast to the professionalism I experienced during my first interview process with Klaviyo.
