I applied to a couple of marketing design jobs back in July 2021. I'm currently a senior designer for marketing at another global tech company so I'm very much qualified for the roles I applied to.
After 3 months, I got an email to complete a logic test, and let me tell you, that logic test is ridiculous. There's no way to adequately prepare for it without spending $40 on a course from the test provider. I prepared for the test for an entire day as best I could with free tutorials on YouTube that covered similar visual logic tests - and I aced all of those tests. For Klarna's logic test, the 2 example questions are extremely easy, but the actual questions are insanely difficult. Plus, the multiple-choice is A-E and all options are very similar. The worst part about the logic test is that it does NOT adequately measure intelligence or abilities. After I took the test, there was no way for me to know my result. There was zero communication from Klarna for another 3 months.
After 6 months, I hadn't yet been able to speak to a human which was really frustrating. Finally, in December 2021, I got an email from a human recruiter saying that they thought my portfolio was interesting and that they would like to interview me for a general product designer role. This was very surprising, as I hadn't applied to this role, but I was very flattered and excited. The actual interview went well and the recruiter was very professional and easy to talk to. I brought up my concerns regarding the logic test because if I were to continue in the hiring process, I would have had to take it again in real-time in front of someone. The recruiter mentioned that one of the co-founders is a big proponent of the logic test because he helped implement it. And when they tried to remove it as mandatory for everyone in the hiring process (likely because it was not helpful), they were unable to do so. I think that says a lot.
2 business days later, I got an email from Klarna that they were not going to continue with my application.
This was honestly the most convoluted, strange, and nonsensical hiring process that I've ever been a part of. I don't think I'll be applying to Klarna again after this experience.
