Interview
Alex, HR person was great, he gave me a lot of information and was really helpful in providing information and during the Skype interview. I completed the exercise they gave me 1 HTML CSS navigation bar menu, and 1 Node.js class creating exercise, 3rd was Java exercise very tricky and moderately heavy. I did not mention anything about java in my CV, nor the position required one, but still they sent me Java coding exercise. I done all three of them substituting Java solution with Node.js one.
I was surprised with the rejection because of the stuff like: Css content was too static, and second exercise did not work on our end. They did not gave any instructions about responsiveness and details of the exercise yet they judged me according to that.
They are not concentrated on seeing the bigger picture, I was surprised that they didn't asked me anything about my choices or specific things I did or did not do in my code, so for me they are not concentrating on a person, or how do programmer approach things, they ae solely concentrated on a end result, get from mind reading of their thoughts.
This criticism is more on their development team not seeing the bigger picture about reviewing code of future employees. They seemed to be the another one in the line of concentrating to find another Mark Zuckerberg than to build a cohesive team.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at KAYAK in Aug 2025
Interview
Had a great interview experience recently for a front-end role. Naturally, I was asked about singletons, dependency injection, and Big O notation because nothing says "React front-end development" quite like deep dives into object-oriented design patterns I’ve never once used.
I explained that my entire career has been in functional programming, primarily with React, and I’ve never touched OOP. The interviewer looked at me like I said I write JavaScript with a typewriter.
At some point, I started wondering if I had accidentally applied for a back-end systems architecture role or if the interviewer had just read one too many articles on how to prep for FAANG interviews and thought, “Yeah, this is the standard for everyone now.”
Lesson learned: next time I’ll brush up on abstract factory patterns, dependency injection frameworks, and maybe a little quantum computing… you know, just in case I need to center a div.
