      Software Developer Interview

      17 Feb 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at JR Butler

      Interview

The time between applying and interviewing was about a week. I was required to take a PI Behavioral Assessment prior to the interview. Also, before the interview, I emailed my HR contact and asked for clarification on salary expectations. The salary listed on the job description was very far below my salary range I have held over the past decade. I did not want to waste their time, nor mine, if salary expectations were too far diverged. However, I never received a response, so I proceeded with the interview anyway. The interview itself was held with a couple of young employee general office workers (probably in their early 20s). All of the questions seemed like canned/generic questions they looked up on Google. "What are your strengths?" "What are your weaknesses?" "What are your hobbies?" "Do you like small teams? Big teams? Why?" -- There were hardly any technical questions, and there seemed to be a general disregard for my extensive experience in the field/industry/work history. I did not receive an offer. I am guessing because the salary expectation was highly divergent, or, they were overwhelmed with my background and did not know how to handle it. Perhaps it was another reason, but I may never know because they never followed up (like most companies). In any case, I came away from the interview feeling like our time was wasted. If they were to reach out again, I probably won't respond -- unless they have more competent interviewers available in the technical space.
