the company advertised for the corporate controller role on Indeed. I applied for the opportunity and was called a week or so later. I spoke to an admin who scheduled me for an interview with the CEO/ President and owner a few days after that.
When I arrived I had to be buzzed in through an intercom system. I enter the entry to the building and there is a small desolate sitting area and above are open staircases topped with a loft area. I recognized the voice yelling at me from the top of the stairs as the same one who scheduled the interview saying "what you here for? Are you looking to sale us something?" I reminded her of the interview and she barks down for me to sign in and grab a badge and meet her upstairs and she was too tired to come down and properly greet me.
It goes downhill from there. I was told I would speak to two persons when I scheduled the phone interview. After being dropped off and left in a empty conference room for 25 minutes and being gawked at by passbyers an interviewer who didn't introduce himself entered and demanded I tell him about myself. Although I had no idea who this man was I did. he asked a few simple questions back. I learned that I wasn't meeting with the CEO or owner, the company didn't have an accounting system in place and unlike the job description alluded they were really looking for a consultant to come in and set one up and then stay on board and maintain it and the company had extremely aggressive sales growth goals but the interviewer refused to describe the true extent of the firms offerings or operations or customers or partners
It was a very strange interview with an unorganized mess of a company. They wanted to pay $60k for a job that was worth much more than that.
