      Question 1

Walk through your resume. DY vs DSCR. Simple real estate technicals. Why real estate, why asset management.

      Asset Management Analyst Interview

      3 Feb 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at JBG SMITH (Washington, DC) in Sept 2024

      Interview

I had a phone screen with HR on September 30, 2024. I next passed the Excel test and had subsequent, back-to-back interviews with members of the Asset Management team. One interviewer did not turn on their camera and seemed dismissive of my candidacy from the beginning. They implied, for instance, that my master’s degree in real estate was an irrelevant qualification because it was obtained through a newly established, part-time program (it was a full-time program at a prestigious university). That interview took place on October 10. On November 13, more than a full month later, HR emailed me asking if I’d be interested in another position, this time in Operations—they passed me up for the first role without explicitly saying so until I asked. Regardless, I expressed interest, and they conducted two more interviews with me during the week of November 25. The main interviewer in this round did most of the talking and informed me that they’d have a decision before Christmas. I did not hear from them again until January 6, 2025, after emailing them (twice) for an update. HR responded tersely, saying that they had found another candidate and provided no additional feedback. Any job candidate conducting themselves with a similar lack of engagement would be disqualified in short order. It’s a shame that even rudimentary professionalism is not the standard at this company. Update: After posting this review, JBG Smith responded with a generic, copy-paste statement that they’ve used for other negative reviews. Their response does not address my specific concerns, which reinforces my experience of their hiring process being impersonal and dismissive. Candidates should be aware that feedback may not be taken seriously here.

      Asset Management Analyst Interview

      26 Jun 2024

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at JBG SMITH

      Interview

This process was ridiculously slow and drawn out over months. I initially applied for a different role and got an offer for a screening call. This call was pushed back twice due to last minute schedule conflicts with HR. During the screening call, they told me they already had conducted final round interviews a few days prior. After a few weeks, HR referred me to the asset management role. I had to do a modeling test, which I passed. I had my interview with the manager, and he was rude and uninterested from the second the call started. It was obvious he didn’t want to be on the call, and I could tell that no matter how well I did, I wouldn’t get the role. Even after asking for updates weeks later, I never heard back. As a qualified candidate who get offers elsewhere, I will never apply for another role at JBG SMITH.
