      Python Developer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at IoT Inspector (Budapest) in Apr 2021

      Interview

The recruiter reached out through Linkedin. We discussed the overall profile of the company and agreed on a first-round take-home challenge (see below). The challenge was somewhat ambiguously written but decipherable and overall a decent problem to work out within a day. I submitted my solution and waited for the second round recruiter call. They said the challenge submission was OK but did not provide any additional detail. When asked about my comp. expectation they got upset about my range, terminated the process via email, and said that in case I will be inclined to negotiate my expectations they will be happy to have me on board. I have politely asked them to make a counter-offer indicating my willingness to negotiate. They then took a 180 turn and said they are not going to pay less than I had asked for and are not interested in further discussions. Overall, very disappointing treatment; if salary negotiation was such a sensitive topic they should have sorted it out well before they had given me the challenge. The discussion-style turned from warm and friendly to upset and condescending within a matter of hours. While the company sounds to be working on interesting products, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend them.

Thank you very much for providing this constructive feedback. While it is our goal to structure the interview process as enjoyable and efficient as possible for all parties involved, we are sorry to learn about your bad experience. Obviously, not all interviews will result in successful hires. Nevertheless, we will investigate possible improvements to our internal process to make sure candidates feel respected and well-treated in case we have to turn them down. Fairness is one of our core values - during the hiring process, we pay close attention that colleagues with comparable skill-sets will receive equal salaries, regardless of their background. As such, unfortunately, it is not always possible to fully commit on a salary range prior to evaluating a candidate's skill-set. And great to hear your feedback on the product we're working on - means a lot to us :)
