I recently went through Instacart’s interview process for a data role, and overall, it was a structured and well-organized experience. Here’s a breakdown of each stage:
Round 1: SQL and Statistics
The first round was a technical assessment focused on SQL and statistics. The SQL questions tested my ability to write complex queries, optimize performance, and work with real-world datasets. The statistics portion covered probability, A/B testing, and general analytical concepts. The difficulty level was fair, and the questions were well-aligned with the responsibilities of the role.
Round 2: Take-Home Case + Panel Interview
The second round involved a take-home case study, where I was given a dataset and asked to analyze it, extract insights, and present recommendations. This was followed by a panel interview where I walked through my approach and results. The interviewers asked thoughtful follow-up questions and were interested in my problem-solving process, storytelling ability, and ability to translate data insights into business impact.
Round 3: Final Panel Interview
The final round consisted of another panel interview with a mix of behavioral and technical questions. The focus here was on past experiences, problem-solving approaches, and how I would handle real-world challenges at Instacart. The interviewers were engaged and provided a good sense of the team culture and expectations for the role.
