I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Instacart (New York, NY)
Interview
The interview process is pretty straight forward. You walk in and you're greeted by a recruiter. They ask you to fill out some paperwork and then open the app, pick a test check list of items, and walk around the store and try to get the items, correctly, within 14 minutes. If you pass, you buy their bags, typically 5 for like 25 dollars, and you get a led card as well as an Id tag with their logo and that's it.
Fill out online application.
They will do a background check.
You must be legally able to work in the US.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Sign an independent contractor agreement.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

I applied through other source. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Instacart (Lemoore, CA) in May 2021
Interview
There was no interview process you just apply online or through the shopper app. They run a background check and as soon as that went through they sent me a card and I was able to start shopping the only thing is sometimes they have a wait list I got lucky when I applied and there was no waitlist but some people have to wait months if there’s too many shoppers in their area.
