      Software Development Test Engineer Interview

      22 Jun 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Lexington, MA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Imprivata (Lexington, MA) in May 2016

      Interview

Phone Screen followed by in-person interview. Should have met with manager beforehand and I could have stopped the interview there. Manager is less than passionate about his role and generally unclear on how to build an effective test organization within an Agile environment. He was virtually unaware of test driven development and had a "what can I possibly do?" sort of attitude to changing the test culture. The individuals in the test group were fairly ordinary in their backgrounds. The team clearly did not organize the interview questions (as a team) beforehand given I was asked the same questions over and over by every person I met with. They still subscribe to the "stump the chump" method of interviewing where they ask you questions about programming that have no real value. One person asked me to solve a simple coding example then write it on paper. Laughable in today's market where most candidates are code-screened by either their past work or references. In short, this group would be a disaster to work for. You'll constantly be placed on chinese fire drills by their manager with no coherent goals or backing to achieve them. If you do decide to work here, be prepared to keep marketing your resume for another role. Most people I suspect will become bored here very quickly.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Stump-the-Chump. Be prepared to be asked esoterica about Python like "How do you override garbage collection?" or write a program that iterates 1 through 100, prints the values out and identifies certain odd numbers and prints some goofy string for those numbers. Just be prepared for people who are unprepared and very unskilled at how to evaluate a candidate effectively. And be prepared to answer the same or similar questions since it's evident that this crew doesn't huddle beforehand and formulate an interview tailored to your resume.

We very much appreciate you taking the time to share with us the feedback of your interview process at Imprivata. One of our priorities this year was to make sure the interview team has a clear direction on what they should be asking and how to avoid repetitive questions. Your feedback is extremely helpful in identifying some of the progress we still need to make with this initiative. Tayler Capaldi Recruiting Coordinator

      Software Development Test Engineer Interview

      31 Mar 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Imprivata

      Interview

The interview process was pretty straight forward. Mostly just making sure that I was a cultural fit at their company. They did ask a few technical questions but nothing too difficult. It was an all day process where they had multiple people come into the room, each having a specific area that they wanted to ask me about. Afterwards they were going to have a second day of interviews but just decided to move forward with an offer anyways, which I'm not sure is their new standard or not.

      Question 1

Perform a binary search on a sorted array of integers.
