      Personal Assistant Interview

      7 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at IQ Partners (Toronto, ON) in Jun 2023

      Interview

This was a truly bizarre set of interviews. I was approached on LinkedIn by one of the recruiters I was able to be flexible in my schedule and make time to have a video call with her. She wanted me to have a call with her manager the following day. After a few hurried missed calls/emails from him I was able to speak with him at the start of a long-weekend. He was pushing for me to meet the CEO of a company that needed a personal assistant on the following Tuesday. Both of the interviewers kept mentioning that this person was more of a friend and they were mentioning his wife being a lot younger than him. No idea how this is at all relevant to the job. Not appropriate at all in terms of discussing age. Seemed also to be judgemental on their "friends" life choices. They did not provide a job description or anything on the company. Doing a search for the company Solution-Tek it appears to be a fake company? And no, it's not Tek Systems which is a real company. This company claims to do flight rebooking but they have no Canadian clients. Strange? For 2 people to really rush someone through this "urgent" opening, they sure ghosted after the interview. They should be embarrassed that this was a fake company, not sure their intent. The person who interviewed me at the company they were seeking me out for on LinkedIn may I remind you, was beyond grossly disrespectful and unprofessional. Arriving at the unmarked office (this was yet another red flag aside from the lack of information online). I ring this doorbell down a long narrow dimly lit hallway with a flickering fluorescent light (yes). Finally someone "greets" me as in opened the door and scurries to some corner of the office. The first thing I see is there is no waiting room and then to the right is some horrid messy kitchen that is lacking any sort of clean habits. The interviewer comes huffing and puffing 10 minutes late in a head to toe blue basketball uniform drenched in sweat. He said he's going to the washroom and to grab a water for himself. He didn't even offer me one and continued to drink his water throughout the hour. The interviewers said I had to choose between two times on that day because he had someone else to interview as well so I worked my schedule around this mans schedule. To find he is running late, soaking in sweat, was drinking water and didn't offer me any, was sitting in a manspread way with his sweaty hairy armpits in my face. Talked about his wife, kids, nanny, pets, his cottage hes building an extension on, the toys he owns. Everytime I tried to ask what was needed to help with in terms of making his job easier and more organized- also asked about what his wife would need help with since she kept getting brought up by the interviewers and him. Overall, he would just say my role/responsibilities/duties, "could be anything"...., He finished the interview (aka wasting my time and money spent to get down there ($20 parking, 40 minute drive one way, not to mention I personally showered and dressed for the role) by stating, "We should do this again sometime". shocking. With the introduction of remote work, you would think this free friend hour (I truly dont know what else to call this) could have been done over a Zoom call, phone call at most. There was no signage on the company and it was operating on a ghost floor with empty paper boxes. I feel that either they purposely put me in an interview with ill intent or they just don't know their friend well enough. I think it should be a warning sign if a company doesn't have a website especially when 2 interviews claim its a billion dollar company and he "could do anything he want because he's that good!" He said he made it so he cannot be found online. I understand privacy but also unsure of how you run your business. He said his clients are his friends. Also suspect.
