      Trainee Management Accountant Interview

      21 May 2023
      Anonymous employee
      London, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Howden (London, England) in Apr 2023

      Interview

I applied via LinkedIn and a couple days later I have been invited via email to a virtual interview. That stage fell quite uncomfortable, as there was no one to talk to. I honestly thought I did really bad on this one, so I was surprised to hear via email that they want to have a quick call with me to discuss a few bits. So a couple days later we had this call with the HR manager where she asked why I want to leave my current company, what my salary expectations are, and why do I want to work for Aston Lark. She then said she’ll be in touch with me if the finance team are interested in me. That took approx another week for them to come back to me and invite me to a teams interview with the finance controller and the Management accountant. Both were really lovely. The interview started with a couple questions of myself which gave me the chance to get them to know me better, and then they wanted to know a little bit more of my experience, my aspirations and goals and why I want to work for Aston Lark again. The day I’ve had an email by the HR manager, inviting me to a final interview face to face in their London offices. The interview was again with the same people again. This time the interviewers wanted to know how I deal with day to day problems at work, they asked me very targeted questions to understand my thought process when it comes to accounting errors, the way I would like my training to be done, understand why I prefer to be a management accountant instead of a financial accountant. The first 3 stages of the interview were not difficult at all, if I exclude the fact that the virtual interview can be quite uncomfortable, although the last one can be a bit tricky if you’re stressed. They were more interested to see if I had the rights skills (not experience) for this role, if I had the passion and how much I wanted to be in this company. I have never done management accounting before and according to the high demand this vacancy had, many people with far more experience than me applied.
