      Fullstack Software Engineer Interview

      30 Aug 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Hopper in Aug 2024

      Interview

Technical recruiter was busy so, didn't have an intro with the technical recruiter. Went instead directly to hiring manager culture fit round. First question was how was your day, and I replied saying I was busy with work and prepping for the interview, to which he replied its just a conversation. Well, I didn't move past this round, so it wasn't just a conversation. I wasn't asked to introduce myself or talk about my work experience. Directly jumped into behavioral question. For every question, I had to set up a big context , since I didn't introduce myself. The interviewer looked bored and disinterested while I answered and even stretched some. I understand that being a full-time employee is taxing, but interviewing a candidate is not the time to take a break. It seemed even before halfway through the interview he decided I wasn't good enough for the role. I have given plenty of behavioral interviews and the interviewers always are attentive and try to understand candidates background and make the candidate feel comfortable, not awkward. That, unfortunately cannot be said for this particular interview. Did not proceed to the technical round.

      Interview

      1. Call with recruiter 2. Leetcode style coding round. Very open-ended DSA algorithms type interview. There were only a couple of test cases, but you had to test them out yourself in the HackerRank coding environment. The question was about building a spell-checker. I think I had the optimal solution in the beginning, but after some questions with the interviewer, I tried optimizing with a different data structure and didn't finish it within the timeframe.

      Fullstack Developer Interview

      26 May 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Montreal, QC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Hopper (Montreal, QC) in Apr 2016

      Interview

I contacted them via their website and soon I got a reply. They asked me to solve a simple coding problem and after that i was invited to their office to speak with their lead. Their office was on the street where I would be scared to come home late and the building was covered in graffite so I started to have seconds thoughts there unfortunately... When I saw him for some reason I thought that he don't want to hire me(or maybe he was tired), but he was very nice anyway. I didn't get many questions about the position, the guy just talked about the company and what they do and then asked me to solve an another simple coding test. I didn't have enough time to finish it. It really felt like too fast. After that they contacted me and told me I didn't pass without giving details why. I really think when I was on the interview they have already got someone else in mind. But aside this I think it was an ok interview
