I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at HealthVerity in Aug 2021
Interview
First there was a phone screening, then a 45 minute phone interview with the Chief Data Scientist, then a 2.5 - 3 hour interview with various members of the team.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The phone screen was just about getting to know a bit more about me, my past experience in general and what I'm looking for. The next interview involved getting to know my experience in greater detail, and involved some probability questions. The last round included a lot of behavioral questions in various scenarios.
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at HealthVerity (Alexandria, VA) in Oct 2025
Interview
Applied on Indeed and heard back in 2 days. Scheduling was quick and organized.
Interview Process
HR Screen (~30 min): Background, comp range, role scope. Recruiter was courteous and efficient.
Chief Data Scientist (45 min): Deep dive on projects, modeling choices, evaluation metrics, and deployment trade-offs. Fair and technical.
Panel (3 hours): Multi-interviewer rotation covering problem framing, experiment design (A/B testing, power/error trade-offs), ML system design, and stakeholder comms. Long session with minimal breaks.
Someone knocked on my door during the panel. I paused for ~2 minutes and rejoined immediately. I was told this interruption was the reason I didn’t receive an offer. That rationale felt disproportionate and suggested a high-strung culture.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Some Bayesian probability questions and questions about methods of data privacy and masking.
