Phone interview with owner
Unpaid writing gig
No response or feedback afterwards
The owner talked a lot about himself, but after having you write a blog, which for the topic takes hours (and they dont pay for it), I'd say the experience was unpleasant.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at GrowthMed (Los Angeles, CA) in Jul 2022
Interview
The CEO reached out to me via Indeed (red flag) to schedule a quick intro call via calendly, but no phone number or link was set up. I sent them my phone number and asked how they wanted to meet but did not get a response. At the time of the interview, after waiting 10 minutes and not receiving any messages, I called the office and got in touch through the secretary.
After a few minutes of discussing front end things with the CEO, he said he would send me a four-hour test project that needed to be done immediately. And that it was timed. He didn't mention this, although it was implied, but ****they didn't pay me any money for this project**** Red flag.
The test project was a simple page in bootstrap to be built off a PSD and be mobile responsive.
After the test project, I did not receive any word back from the CEO. I called the office two days later and asked to speak with him again, but was told he was out of office. I called him again on Tuesday of the following week and was told he was unavailable. He has not responded to any of my emails or even my test project.
The whole process seems flaky. The CEO seems flaky. It's like he is barely there. He did say he is a serial entrepreneur, so maybe he is distracted. Just doesn't seem like a great place to work. The person answering calls said they do these types of things all the time so this didn't seem memorable even though I'd called 3 times in the last week.
Salary range listed was below market value.
