Customer Service Representative - Entry Level Interview

      11 Mar 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New Orleans, LA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Greaux Events (New Orleans, LA) in Mar 2016

      Interview

I am so glad I ran into these reviews ahead of time so I sort of knew what was coming, but thought what the heck, I'll go for interview experience outside of what I know, which is the field of mental health. The interview process was easy and short. I arrived approximately 15 minutes early to the interview and observed an interview start and finish before mine started on time. I was told this was the 1st of 3 interviews and it would be quick. I was asked a few questions, the interviewer was easy to talk to. He then explained what exactly the company did, what the pay would start out at (minimum wage), and how in the future "after approximately 6-12 months" an employee would be considered for a management position in the "hopes" the company would expand and he would be promoting people from the inside. He asked if I would be willing to come down on my pay initially for the first year because "at this company we believe minimum work deserves minimum pay." I agreed just to see where the interview would go from there, knowing in my mind I would never settle for a minimum wage job. He then asked if I would also be willing to work into the nights and the weekends for the first year. Taken aback, I'm thinking did he just offer me minimum wage, AND work nights and weekends? Do people seriously set their standards this low and agree to this? I told him then I would not be willing to do that and it concluded our interview. I remained mature and polite during the interview, but honestly it was offensive. Earlier in the interview I reiterated I have a Master's Degree in which he belittled, by articulating it wasn't a Master's in Marketing, basically saying because my Master's Degree isn't in Marketing, I didn't deserve any more money. If you're thinking why did you apply to this job if you have a Master's Degree...It's because I recently moved to the area and was looking for a career change.
