I applied online in early December and was contacted by HR a week later to attend a capture flag event that they were hosting in the area. The capture the flag was a series of fun security and forensic challenges. There I competed in the event and had an opportunity to go over my resume with a team member.
A few weeks later I was called by an HR representative to go over my expected graduated date and salary expectations. I also received an email asking me to come in for an onsite interview in January. The onsite consisted of an interview with the hiring manager and a separate interview with a panel of senior incident responders on the team. The hiring manager reviewed my resume with me and asked questions about my prior work experience. The interview with the incident responders focused more on technical questions . Both interviews went well and I received positive feedback.
Several weeks later I was put in contact with a new HR representative who asked about my salary expectations again. After giving my salary expectations I did not hear back until I reached out to the representative again several weeks later asking for an update. I was told to expect an answer in the next few days, however I did not hear back until a week later when I informed GE that I received another offer and asked again when I should expect to hear back so that I can make a decision. I was told that the representative would reach out to "the team" for an update, however again I did not receive a follow up. At this point I assumed the company was no longer interested in my application and I took a different offer. Several months later I was contacted by another HR representative asking if I was still interested in the position. I politely declined, informing them that I have already accepted and started another job. In total, it took me nearly 6 months to receive to get a definitive answer on my status with them. The entire process was very unclear and showed a great deal of bureaucratic issues with their hiring process. While I enjoyed interviewing with the people at the local site my experience with their parent HR team was very poor and unresponsive. I would not advise applying to GE anytime soon until these issues are resolved.
