I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at G-Mode (Tokyo) in Oct 2015
Interview
I first met them at a career conference. Then they called me for the first official interview at their office in Shinagawa Seaside, Tokyo.
A manager and a technical leader (not sure) interviewed me.
I believe it was "Good-cop, Bad-cop" style interview. Because the manager acted rude and impatient while the technical person seemed OK.
Asked me about my current job, reasons for changing and reviewed the games I built by myself.
While all this was going on, the Bad-cop was more active than the Good-cop, which resulted in a more serious and uncomfortable interview.
If it weren't a Good-cop, Bad-cop style interview then I can be sure they weren't much interested in me from the beginning itself.
Then came a simple programming question (In JAPANESE) and that's where I failed when I couldn't read the kanjis. They already knew about my Japanese level, being just less than 1 year in Japan. But it was my problem I guess.
But then something really good happened, the Good-cop searched for a similar question (recursive programming) for me in English and asked me to solve and I did it (2 minutes).
3days later I get informed that I am not selected because of Japanese reading ability.
The whole interview was in Japanese though.
PS - I am still thankful that they called me for an interview at their office, given my Japanese level. Although I showed so much passion with all my work, it din't work out because speaking is just not enough.
