I applied via email and followed up a week later after no response. Nearly a month after my follow-up I got a reply asking to set up a technical interview with one of their engineers.
On the morning of the scheduled interview day, my interviewer reached out asking to postpone it to the next day, as he was sick and wanted to "give 100% of [him]self and company". I happily accepted and we rescheduled. The interview went on, however my interviewer was still clearly ill. He messed up several questions he asked me and appeared to space out at times. He apologized to me and said they would reach out again to schedule a redo with someone else.
After not hearing back for almost two weeks I followed up with them. I followed up yet again after another week of radio silence. A week after that I got an email saying I'm not the right fit and that they're looking for someone with more experience.
I don't blame my interviewer for what happened, but I also don't believe I was given a fair chance in these circumstances. But their flaky communication also came off as unprofessional, so they probably weren't worth my time to begin with.
