      Account Manager Interview

      9 May 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bountiful, UT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Fluid Advertising (Bountiful, UT) in May 2016

      Interview

The interview was with an HR rep, 2 account managers and the partner. The HR rep was disengaged the whole time it seemed. Didn't even seem like he was part of the company, one of those "rent-an-HR-department" type deals it seemed like - More on that later. The partner asked most of the questions. They were pretty straightforward standard interview questions. I got one weird question from one of the managers (see below). Overall, it seems like a solid organization with a lot of upside. They were smart people. A peculiar thing was that the partner expected a lot of questions from me at the end. He asked me if I had any questions and I asked him the few questions I had, mostly about types of clients and company structure. He then asked me again if I had any questions and I said I had everything covered that I was curious about. Then, instead of concluding the interview he started explaining other things that seemed like premeditated answers to questions he was maybe expecting me to ask or questions he's had before. Almost robotic-like, kind of creepy actually. Then, again! "Do you have any other questions?" Made me feel like there was one really dumb question I wasn't asking that I should have. We'd been interviewing for a while and covered what seemed like everything to me. When I concluded again that I didn't have anymore questions the HR guy said his first words and somewhat begrudgingly asked me for my salary requirements. I told him what they were..."I assume you'll need two weeks notice at your current job?" He said looking down at his clipboard. I said yes, I will. He then asked me what I currently made and I told him that as well. Then he told me he'd send me a document to put my 3 references on and that I'd hear back shortly. I received the document immediately but it was branded as a references document for "Orbit Irrigation" I thought this was sent by mistake and maybe it was for another client of his that he does HR for - Hence the "rent-a-HR-guy" vibe. I was reluctant to fill it out at first because it required a signature and I didn't want to sign anything for a company I wasn't applying for. He replied back the next day that the form was correct and it was part of some parent company that owns both the agency and Orbit Irrigation. I filled it out, signed it and got it back to them less than 24 hours after my interview - never heard back. This may be nit-picky but for an ad agency not to have their own form, seems kind of lazy to me. Advertising agencies churn out amazing creative things every day, I'm sure they are no different but they couldn't take the little bit of time to brand their own document? That kind of summed up the experience for me.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

This is the oddest question I got and its the first question they asked me, so right off the bat things were a little strange: "What would make you leave the job right away, if you got the job?" Seemed kind of like a trick question and I'm not entirely sure where it was coming from. Have they had a lot of turnover that they are scared of? If so, should I be asking more questions to figure out why they are so concerned with me leaving right away? What makes anyone leave a job? More money, better opportunities, etc. That's pretty common knowledge, no? Anything beyond that would have to do with the people, the clients and the work environment itself - things I have no idea about in an interview.
