I applied online and was given a coding assignment by the recruiter as the first step, which I completed. I was then invited to the San Jose, CA office for in person interviews. The entire process took about 2 weeks. The recruiter scheduled the interviews and clearly outlined the office directions and interview panel. I met with 3 people, including two managers who asked about my experience and engaged in open ended discussions. The hiring manager started the interview by introducing himself and mentioning that he had recently joined the company along with the other managers with whom he has worked in the past. He explained that he has been given funding to utilize wisely to demonstrate impact and mentioned at least 3 more times during our discussion that he had the authority to fire anyone he hired or the person should know when to leave a company. He also emphasized long working hours and weekend commitments as part of the startup culture. His comments and approach gave the impression of an inexperienced engineer newly placed in a leadership role. Having worked in startups myself, I found this interaction quite surprising and unprofessional, particularly from hiring company's reputation and branding perspective.
