      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      17 Oct 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at FireHydrant (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2024

      Interview

After initial recruiter screen, they send a git repo and a developer API key with nebulous instructions to create a new feature for the product. You're instructed to read two sites' worth of documentation, get their application running locally, design and implement a new feature, and submit a pull request--complete with tests and documentation--within 72 hours. Essentially: onboard yourself to the company, make guesses at what their data model actually looks like (because the developer API data is incredibly scarce), design and code an entire feature with minimal guidance on direction or scope, and then get a form letter rejection with zero feedback... after giving over a week's worth of work.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at FireHydrant in Nov 2024

      Interview

Met first with a recruiter and then the hiring manager in separate interviews. Interview was straightforward and very friendly. Talked about past experience and what the company did. Mutually decided it wasn't the right fit for the time being.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      29 Oct 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FireHydrant in Aug 2024

      Interview

Had an initial chat with the VP of engineering who sent through a coding test with instructions to deliver a brand new feature using the FireHydrant API. After spending most of the weekend on the exercise, I received a generic rejection and was ghosted when asking for feedback. It seems like this scenario has been quite common with other candidates which is honestly pretty scummy. I would avoid this company 🚩
