I was initially contacted directly by the hiring manager at Finance of America regarding a Digital Marketing role. Before any outreach from a recruiter, the hiring manager scheduled a conversation with me and mentioned that I should expect an email from their recruiter with documentation about the role and the organization.
Following that, I was scheduled for the next phase of interviews, which went very well. I received positive feedback and was under the impression that things were moving forward. However, within two weeks, the role’s title and description changed multiple times—from Digital Marketing Manager to Paid Search Manager, and finally to Campaign Manager.
The most concerning issue was the lack of communication. After a month of no updates, I followed up and was told they were still reviewing other candidates and the process could take another two weeks or more. At that point, it became clear that there was no structured hiring process in place. Eventually, I noticed that the job was quietly removed from their website without any formal communication or closure.
This experience highlighted the importance of transparency and consistency in the hiring process, and reinforced my preference for organizations that value candidate time and clear communication.
