      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Figure

      Interview

I had several interactions with Figure during their interview process for their Growth Marketing Manager position and unfortunately, it was an incredibly frustrating, inhumane, hiring experience. It began when the recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, expressing that my background and skill set aligned perfectly with the open role. She was very skilled and great within her role which I will not, by any means, take away from. This review is not for her as this interaction is not a reflection of her as it is the leadership within the marketing department. Following a smooth phone screen, I connected with the director of marketing, and we had an excellent conversation that really confirmed my qualifications for the position. This too was a lovely conversation that I really enjoyed. However, the next step involved a prompt to create a presentation showcasing my abilities within the role. To my disappointment, the prompt provided was a series of screenshots that was incredibly unclear and lacked essential data and ANY context. It displayed their lead gen LinkedIn and search ads, but the information presented was honestly.. limited to clicks, impressions, CTR, CPC, Total Spend, and Conversions, allow me to note that the conversions literally showed zero results. This was not a hypothetical scenario as the screenshot came directly from Linkedin Campaign Manager. These ads were the real deal of what was happening internally. The creatives and copy showcased too, and all were practically identical. the landing page for the ads was included as well. The prompt itself asked how I would do things differently as the Growth Marketing Manager, with the goal of increasing the number of MQLs by a certain factor by the end of the year. As someone who has successfully managed LinkedIn ads with a budget 10 times greater than their "scenario" range, and was responsible for owning the outcome of 2x the amount asked, succeeding all KPIs--it was near impossible to understand the purpose of this prompt. It was impossible to create a meaningful strategy presentation without crucial data such as targeting, conversion tracking, timeframe, and a clear understanding of the existing strategy on those channels. Like.. what targeting do you currently have in place? what location are you targeting? did you select the audience network and not limit it to the platform? those of you who are reading this with a marketing background, you know information like this is literally essential when given such a specific prompt. I couldn't tell like do you want me to just shmooze my way through this presentation? say a lot of nothing through this strategy? Given the lack of provided data, I had no choice but to create a presentation that highlighted the significant gaps in the information and emphasized the need for proper data analysis to make data-driven decisions. I shared my strategy, but I made it clear that it was only a theoretical approach and could be validated with the opportunity to access and analyze the actual data. After putting significant effort into creating a 10-15-page slide deck as requested and submitted it back. I received an email from the recruiter informing me that "the position had been filled over the weekend by a candidate who was further along in the process". It was disheartening to realize that I had essentially provided direction for Free.99 to address their current struggles, especially considering they were not even tracking conversions on LinkedIn. Like why even ask candidates to do this and abuse our expertise? This is not a free Marketing consultation am i able to invoice my time..? It was 100% apparent that the current growth marketing strategy was operating blindly...literally, and I am so.. disgusted that Figure is ask candidates to create presentations about solving their existing failures. I think it is beyond me that I got rejected from the process after they literally aren't even tracking for conversions on the platform. Overall, my experience with Figure';s interview process was incredibly disappointing and makes me cringe to this day. I didn't even apply for this role, and you literally just used me for a free marketing consultation..? It raises some serious questions about their leadership + recruitment practices and the sincerity of their interest in candidates' expertise. To ask candidates to provide solutions for their current actual marketing failures and then abruptly "fill" the position, OVER THE WEEKEND..? like BFFR.--without further consideration & without even allowing me the opportunity to present my 15 slide presentation to an actual person is honestly so infuriating. I hope that Figure reevaluates.. no, 100% overhauls their interview process for their marketing department to ensure a more respectful and meaningful experience for future candidates.
