I was invited to complete a 60-minute online assessment as part of the first round. I felt I approached the exercise thoughtfully given how much we had to come up with based on targeting 8 criteria factors within the time constraints, and understood the next step would be to walk through my plan in more detail.
However, I was informed by HR that I would not be moving forward because my response was considered “too structured.” This feedback was surprising, and it was disappointing not to even have the opportunity to discuss my thinking further after investing significant time in the exercise.
Although I was frustrated by this experience, I did learn one thing which was to never go for companies such as these that don't even bother doing a screening call and immediately resort to these time sucking experiences. I would encourage the company to reconsider their interview process in terms of at least having a screening call before making candidates take these assessments so that they don't end up wasting everyone's time.
