I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Explore Learning (London, England) in Aug 2019
Interview
I applied on indeed. I sent my CV. They emailed me to confirm I had GCSE qualifications. Then they emailed a phone appointment. On the phone they got to know me, my experience, why I wanted the job, what hours I could work. Then they invited me for an in person interview. They gave me a tour and made me do a quick English and maths test(ks3 and below). They made me and the other candidates do a group task of designing a game. Then they did another interview with mostly the same questions as the phone call. Then I got to interact with the kids. MAKE SURE to crouch and get to their level and be super engaging. This is what they are looking for. Then they’ll five you feedback on how you were with the kids and give you another opportunity to talk to them. I knew all this and made sure to do this. Unfortunately as it’s drop in they were expecting loads of kids but it was the summer holidays and only 5 showed up. One was autistic and I was told to leave him and the other was an older child who refused to speak to anyone. So another candidate and I were trying to get the attention of 3 children (2 were siblings and sat together). We talked for a while but they had work to do and didn’t need my help so I stood to the side for the last couple of minutes. I was told they loved my enthusiasm from the interview but they wanted me to be more engaging with the kids. This is despite the interviewer telling me in person how much she loved that I was asking the kids personal questions (how was their day, where they went on holiday, what their favourite shows were). I was even told that one girl was particularly shy and they were surprised how much she opened up with me. I’m disheartened because I really wanted the job and was so passionate about it. (One candidate was late and another wanted to go into medicine. They knew I wanted to go into education.) If they had just planned it during term time when more kids would be there I KNOW I would’ve gotten the job.
Thank you for sharing your interview experience. I am pleased to read you had a positive experience and it is great to read how passionate you are about the role. If you have any further feedback about the process do get in touch with us: careers@explorelearning.co.uk

I interviewed at Explore Learning (London, England)
Interview
The interview essentially asked me how to answer a few basic maths and grammar questions. It wasn't particularly difficult, but it is important to know that you must be able to explain how to answer a question or how to break and answer down so that a learner can follow the steps.
