I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Ethan Conrad Properties (Sacramento, CA) in Feb 2022
Interview
I discovered the job online. The job seemed like a fraction of the responsibilities I had at a previous employer. One bullet point did seem like a slight red flag to me though. It said "other duties as assigned by the CEO". This isn't always bad, but from my experience it's best that everyone is crystal clear on their job descriptions. I believe that sometimes companies add this statement as a caveat to make employees do things outside their scope. Again, it doesn't always have to be negative, but it can go south when overused. It's most efficient to strategically hire individuals with specific skills to do a certain job, not an employee who you will make do whatever you need them to do (ie extra duties as described). You want a professional, not a butler. Despite the red flag, I applied anyways.
I received an email invitation for a phone call within a couple days.
I researched the company here on Glassdoor. At this point, I considered canceling my interview due to the comments warning of a toxic work culture and potential micromanaging. I figured the toxic work culture wouldn't be much of a problem working from home. I was interested in this job title and the job was remote (or so it said) so I decided to proceed.
The interview started a few minutes late but seemed to go well. I described my relevant experience but stopped the interview early upon discovering the job is not remote after all.
Even before gas was $7/gallon, I had a firm stance on remote work. A company should hire quality candidates who can be trusted to do their job regardless of location. Beside saving time, gas and other valuable resources, offering remote work is a tiny gesture companies can offer to show appreciation to their employees.
