I applied online. I interviewed at Equitable Advisors (New York, NY) in Feb 2021
Interview
Interview was very laid back but was more about selling the position than getting to know me and discussing my qualifications. Overall, easy interview and was asked for a second interview.
I applied through university. I interviewed at Equitable Advisors (New Brunswick, NJ) in Nov 2023
Interview
TLDR: Don't get paid for the first 4-5 months while studying for a FINRA license. Did a quick-apply on handshake, only submitted my resume, no cover letter. Got an email to schedule a 15 min phone call with a hiring manager. On the call, the man gives me a short spiel about EA then immediately asks me when I can come in for an onsite interview the following week. Keep in mind he knew nothing about me except for my resume at this point. I had seen some negative things on Glassdoor, so I asked if I would be getting paid beyond commission. He said I could choose between base+commission or commission+bonus. He then said I couldn't start working until I got FINRA licensed, which could take four to five MONTHS. They provide a free training program and he said I could do it while I still worked my current job, but that it would be unpaid. I asked how many people that draws in and he circumvented the question. I wish I had asked what the typical base salary was but I didn't. Anyway, I told him I wasn't interested in doing something I wouldn't be getting paid for, and we ended the call.

Standard interview process and questions. First was a screening phone call. Next was a in person interview with one person on the team.
