      IOS Developer Interview

      1 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Irvine, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Envoy (Irvine, CA) in Aug 2017

      Interview

Unusual company interview process. After I applied, they call me without confirmation time (I've got a call in the morning) then start throwing out some swift questions. Eventually they will send you the easy matrix question about finding surrounded neighbors and count. It is easy. But useless since they don't give you feedback, pointless for doing test. They have even mentioned try to build clean code and future possible to update. Ha... typo is on their source. Very unprofessional work environment I can imagine.

      IOS Developer Interview

      27 Nov 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Irvine, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Envoy (Irvine, CA) in Nov 2018

      Interview

A brief 20 min phone call with 5 questions regarding iOS development. They asked me the questions and I responded. I then completed their code test where I provided a lot of code to show my worthiness and what I can do with not only completing their assignment with perfection, but also providing helper functions that demonstrate my skill in this field. They responded that they did not want any re-used code in the test (even though in the README they stated you can use any code/libraries you feel necessary to complete the task.) It's unfortunate that they chose not to proceed with an in-person interview just for using code that I wrote 1-2 years before that has been tried and true for companies that have half a millions users. The email I specifically received was "We noticed the code test is full of helper code and utilities you had written in the past. We were really hoping for fresh code for a code test without rewrites and convenience methods." The README states: "Feel free to use whichever framework / library you deem necessary to complete this task". The library I chose to use was one that I wrote myself.,... DO NOT EXPECT TO REUSE ANY CODE OR LIBRARY THAT HAS BEEN WRITTEN IN THE PAST, AS THEY WILL REJECT IT. ENVOY DOES NOT WANT TO SEE ANY CODE THAT CAN BE REUSED. I would have re-written the same code that they condemned as being "re-written" if I did it today. I believe the only reason is that I had dates in my documentation which stated when the code was written prior to the test.
