Recently I was interviewed at Envestnet Yodlee at Bengaluru for MTS role in a drive. At the day of drive, I got to know that they are interviewing specifically for Java !!!
I cleared every round (2 written + 3 tech PI + 1 HR). Normal questions on Java. Then HR asked me about my current and expected compensation. I told her. Next day she asked me to send my academic records, last three months payslip, hike letter and everything. I sent. After some day, she said that there will be one more for you. I went there.
The person asked me about my company's product, my current role in the product and the projects I had done. I explained him everything. He also asked me about the technologies I had worked on. Then he asked me about my current and expected salary. I said that my current compensation is 18 LPA and I want 30-40% hike as usual.
Then he asked, "why do you think that we will pay 25 lacs for writing Java code?" I said that it's not about Java, it's about problem solving. So he asked me any challenging problem I had solved for my current company. I told him a couple. Then he told that we have some machine learning requirement and asked me about my machine learning, analytics and my recommendation system project.
I explained but he said that you can do this easily with google anyalytics. He made fun of my work and asked some silly questions (According to him, machine learning is just writing a set of rules with four lines of code !!!). At last he asked me to ask him anything, I said no and interview ended. Then HR told me that we are not on the same page.
Advice to that person: Never say someone's achievements easy.
Advice to HR: Before calling any candidate for interview, please tell him your requirement clearly and ask for his current and expected salary.
