I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at DraftKings in Jun 2020
Interview
First I want to say how professional the recruiter, Maria Ferrini, was with my initial phone call. She deserves credit for that.
After the phone call I was given a code test on HackerRant. I believe the test was fair but at the same time it truly does not allow enough time show your skills for coding, design, etc..
They take your test results and eliminate you without ever reviewing your resume and qualifications. In my opinion this eliminates many valuable prospects. I have 18 years experience with the last 9 years working solely as a remote employee making me an excellent fit for the remote position I applied for. The fact that my resume, experience, etc... was not even considered and I was eliminated based solely on a HackerRant test seemed unfair. All aspects of the test were completed and time ran out as I was doing some final debugging and running the test cases.
With all that said, the point of this review is to let future applicants know that you must pass the HackerRant test so write fast and dirty to ensure there is enough time left to get all the test cases to pass. That is all that matters.
Finally, in case anyone reading this is wondering, this review is the truth and is not the result of frustration that can arise from long periods of unemployment and job hunting. I am gainfully employed and one of the most highly respected engineers at my current company that I have been at for 9 years. I came across this job by chance and it peaked my interest. I researched DraftKings and it truly excited me so I took the leap and applied. I have seen every outcome possible from a job interview but never expected that an applicant of my experience would be discarded without ever talking with someone in engineering. If it’s not the right fit after you talk with people in the department you would be working for then so be it, everyone can understand that.
My experience here was so surprising that I actually wrote a review, which is something I very rarely do.
Happy job hunting!
