I underwent a phone screening in order to be considered for a publishing assistant position at one of Diversion’s imprints. The woman, who was one of the Editors, called me an hour early and apologized for being late because her meeting had run long. I believe she was traveling and in a different time zone, so it really was no problem, but just a little weird since we had just been emailing that morning. I felt that the screening went well, but it seemed to focus on how things could get extremely chaotic at their office, and while I understood that she wanted to make sure I’d be cut out for it, it was a little disconcerting seeing as how frazzled she had been about her previous meeting and thinking that she had almost missed our scheduled call. Nevertheless, there seemed to be a close, tight-knit group of people working there, and that’s something that I’m looking for. The phone call ended with her saying she needed to speak to her manager about possible times to invite me down to their office, as she wanted me to meet this person as well. She said she would email me in the next few days with times for an in person interview, but never got back to me. I have sent a few emails checking in, but now that a month has gone by, I’m guessing the position was filled. Overall, it was an extremely weird process, especially since they asked me to apply to the position after my resume was passed to them from a previous application at a different imprint.
