I applied online. I interviewed at Denver Mattress
Interview
Almost everyone gets an interview, due to the new AI hiring process, regardless of whether or not they are hireable. You will interview with the store or assistant manager, which will take close to an hour if not more if it is going well. They will ask about your personal life, including relationships with partners, family, and friends. You'll be asked about your education, mostly what your social life looked like during that time, and about your work history, again focusing on relationships. They will tell you that the company doesn't condone "illegal drug use," and wait for you to do or say something incriminating. If you admit to any drug use, including medical marijuana, you will not be hired. If you pass, you will then be set up to do another one with the regional manager, which can take 2-4 hours. You will be asked very personal questions regarding your family and relationships. They will try to pull any information about drug use out of you. It is super important to them. You will be told that they "look for honest people, not perfect people," but this is not true. If you admit to having been involved in ANY drug use over the last 2yrs, they will pass on you and may or may not let you know they have moved on.

Interview
Went for an In-person interview that was mostly filling out consent forms so they can run your name for anything and everything you can imagine, followed by an up to 4 hour zoom interview where you talk about middle school problems.

"Tell us your life story from birth until this moment"
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Denver Mattress (Joplin, MO) in Oct 2025
Interview
I applied online and was able to immediately schedule an interview for the next day. It was supposed to be a 30 minute interview, turned into an hour and a half which seemed excessive but at the time didn’t raise red flags. 3 weeks later they called me to come up to fill out paperwork for the second interview that they could have had me do at the end of the first interview. The regional manager then set up a zoom call with me for a week and a half after this. Now a month after initially applying I sit down to have the final interview. I was interrogated about my life, childhood traumas and how I felt they effected me long term, my divorce from an unfaithful and abusive marriage, and about a restraining order I had put in place against a former partner and WHY! Then they asked me to tell them what positive aspects there were to my abusive marriage and what I liked about my former abuser. This final interview was 2 hours long and I think MAYBE 5 minutes was about the actual job. Then they asked me about what my finances are like, what debts I have, what I pay for rent, and repeatedly said to “be sure to not lie because we will find out”. I do not know what my personal life and finances have to do with selling someone a mattress. They asked highly personal and insensitive questions the entire process.
And on top of it all they require a hair follicle test…to sell mattresses. No part of me wanted to work for a company that made me rip scabs off of old wounds and then expect me to live with a bald patch for such an unimportant menial job.
