I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Declara (Palo Alto, CA) in Sept 2014
Interview
A little bit of background, I had previously heard about the founder's incredible story and was inspired to apply. HR contacted me via email and scheduled an initial phone interview with one of the VPs. Phone interview was pretty standard, although felt a little bit rushed (only 9 min long), with the interviewer abruptly asking me if I could come in for an on-site interview later in the week (I am a local candidate).
The on-site interview was by far one of the most bizarre interviews I have ever had (it was with the same person I had spoken to earlier on the phone). The interviewer came at me very aggressively, often interrupting my responses. During the whole time, I couldn't help but feel there was a 'holier than thou' / 'we're the best and only hire the best' type mentality. It's clear that they want people who BLEED Declara...it's one thing if Apple, Google, or Tesla does that, but when it's a two bit operation like Declara, it just comes off as arrogant.
I walked out of the interview incredibly frustrated, but am actually quite glad in retrospect.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Did you do research on me before you walked in here? Did you look up any of the people that you will be talking to today?
Is this your dream company? Because if it's not, I don't think I can hire you. But please do tell me your dream company, I might be able to connect you to someone there
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Declara (Palo Alto, CA) in May 2015
Interview
Met with several members of the product and design team. Very practical questions. The day was very well organized. Met with the VP of Product, then the Product and Design leads and members from the Product & Design team. Finally met with the CEO who has an amazing story.
