      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Dataminr (New York, NY)

      Interview

Talk with the manager on the phone. They want me to visit onsite for the first interview. I went there speak with the hiring manager and a data scientist, total of 2 hours. Then I had a full day interview from 9 am to 5 pm. I believe the hiring manager was not super interested in his job. He was kind of lost for how to conduct the process. They have no respect for interviewers time. I wasted a total of 2 PTO days, plus time for presentation preparation. Overall I am not impressed with their engineers. The energy is very low for a startup. Most importantly they do not have a plan for future developments. I had an interview for this job for 4-5 months ago. I see they still did not hire anyone. I believe the purpose of the opening is getting ideas from researchers and implementing by their self.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Pessimistic interviewers are asking problems that they have no hope to solve. They also do not want to accept any recommendations. Very negative people in general. Usually, NLP problems, one data scientist ask entity disambiguation problem. In the second interview, after the 6th hour, an interview asks a matrix related programming question that was related to overlapping. He stated that I have no idea what I am working on in the beginning, he also added that he did not understand my CV. I wondered why I am speaking with a person who has no idea about the area that I work in. He also indicated that he finds his work history very exciting.
