      RDO Interview

      22 Jul 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DaVita

      Interview

Professional and multistep beginning with recruiter, then peer RDO interview and ultimately with HR, Division VP and select other leaders. Required advance preparation of case studies to assess business development skill set. Interviews were professional but it was clear that that they had a corporate "type" - very conservative; many with military backgrounds, Not a bad thing, but I didn't fit that mold. I had already held senior level positions in healthcare, more in keeping with the DVP role. Accordingly, though I had a genuine interest in the RDO role, I also wanted to ensure room for advancement. I believe that an interview candidate should be interviewing the company as much as the company interviews the candidate. I quickly came to feel that my questions were being viewed as challenges though I had absolutely no adversarial intent - only significant experience, interest and curiosity. In preparing for the interview, I noted that throughout the organization, the majority of DVPs had attended Ivy league schools or Ivy league adjacent &/or had a history of military service, so I inquired as to whether my undergraduate and graduate education from non-Ivy League institutions and non-veteran status might limit my growth. The DVP stated that he wasn't aware of that trend (which I found hard to believe), and he further stated that he didn't believe it would prove self- limiting, less than reassuring. I left having received positive feedback from all parties re: my in-depth healthcare experience and interview performance. I was relatively optimistic that I would secure an offer, but equally concerned at a gut-level that I may not fit the cookie cutter mold - appearance, age demographic, etc they desired despite satisifying the skill, education and experience requirments of the role. A few days later I was notified by the recruiter that they were going to go in a different direction. I inquired as to what she might be able to share re: specifics for my own learning/growth. She shared that they felt that I might need more experience re: sales engagement. I was admittedly taken aback and shared that the individual who completed that portion of my interview indicated that he was very pleased with my case study prep, reasoning and prior related experience. She acknowledged that she did see that in her notes and then simply said "I guess they just didn't feel it was "the right fit". Disappointing but easy to accept validating that the corporate culture that I observed likely wasn't the ideal fit for me either. Hopefully Diversity and Inclusion initiatives have since changed this organization for the better; my experience was in 2018. I actually used them as a customer in my next role & clinically had no issues.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Basic why questions....why this company, why this role, why you. Case study prep seemed to be of significant importance.
