      Java Software Engineer/Architect Interview

      16 May 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Sydney
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Crossover for Work (Sydney) in Apr 2015

      Interview

I've find the add for "java software architect" on stackoverflow career web site. I've upload my resume on their web site and created a profile there. The first sign that showed me that something is strange was the fact that their web site did not worked property. After uploading the resume , I've god the generic email saying that I will be contacted if I pass the process. A week later I got an email saying that I've passed the first round and that I should pass the online test in order to continue. The test was contained of 20 questions. All of the question but one were choosing a,b,c,d answer. There was one simple coding question in java. Most of the question were easy. One week after that I've got another email saying that I've passed in the other round and that I should do the tech trial assignment in order to processed in next round. The tech problem was not hard but also not easy. I've needed to architect and create a backed notification system. The trick was that I've needed to do that in 3 days. So I took the challenge and designed a solution with soa architecture, DDD and in general I was paying a lot of attention on details and architecture design. 5 days later I've got the email from one of the recruiter asking when I will send the project!? I've send a wtf email asking on what is happening ( I've put some time and effort in the project and now they are asking me if I have send it or not!?) I've got no replay to that and five days later I've got the email saying that I did not get the job, but they think that I can fit greatly in software engineer job. Now funny thing is that in the description of the position , they included a payment info so it was: "... Software engineer 15us/h ..." !? I've answered that I would like to speak with someone from the company, because I did not have any chance to speak with anyone, to find out more about what are the projects and what I should be doing there. No replays. 3 days later I've recived an email that I was accepted to the "... Software engineer 15us/h ...". They gave me detail instructions on how to send my personal information (passport copy and other info). I've replayed that I am sending anything until I get the chance to speak with someone. So I've got the email saying ok, and asking for which time was ok for me. It is important to mention that this is the first non-generic email that I've got from them. So they arrange a skype meeting. I agreed to speak with them because I spend quite some time and I wanted to know with whom I am dealing with. I was very surprised when on the other side there was a person in Starbucks!! So this guy is an hr and he is telling me how they are great, hiring top talent world wide and have a lot of people from India, Pakistan... He did not know anything about my application ( he was not technical) and the only thing that he was interesting is for me to accept the offer. He even did not know on which project I should be working, in fact they did not have any particular project in mind. The process goes like this, I say yes to this amount, I go to their database, and when they have a project a manager calls me and then we discuss project details... So of course I said no :) I am really sad that I've spend time and effort on this company. There were not info about the company when I've applied and the reason I am sharing my experience is to warn others. Al the hr persons that have send me the email were from India/Pakistan/Vietnam... The only thing that they care is for you to accept their payment conditions. All these "we are hiring top 10% of people" are just not true because their test system is strange.
