I originally applied in early December or late November of 2016. When I heard back over a month later, we setup a phone call. My first conversation with the CTO ended with something along the lines of "I definitely want to speak with you again, if you don't hear from me in 2 weeks reach out to me". The idea that a successful interview with a candidate could fall through the cracks communicated a lot about the company's internal organizational. Despite my gut saying this wasn't a good fit given this sign, I followed up and had a technical interview where I was asked technology-specific questions. The person I spoke with also said I passed his review and he'd pass that information along. That was 6 weeks ago and I haven't heard back. At this point I wouldn't be interested in working here given the flaky communication.
The hiring process shapes a candidate's perspective and attitude towards the company. It's absolutely critical that it is prompt, clearly communicated and followed through on. I'd advise the company to seek using a tool like Workable.com to help streamline this process and prevent losing track of candidate's progress as they interview.
