The first interview with HR, as always, went very well. They seemed very excited to introduce me to the team as I met ALL of the qualifications listed in the job description. While I was both familiar and experienced with vulnerability scanning and knew more than enough to respond quickly and well to any training they promised they would offer, I was ultimately not selected because I didn't have very specific experience with an otherwise very user friendly and easy to learn security tool they use. Additionally, they spent a lot of time asking me questions about certain network technologies that are not in the job description. This made for a very frustrating experience. I am not sure how they think they are going to get a secret cleared applicant that has the very niche experience they're looking for willing to work fully on site for the salary that they are offering. They really ought to bump that up considerably or modify their expectations.
