They asked me if I have experience with GetStream or chat messaging systems.
Indeed, I actually had a project where we had to choose between Sendbird and GetStream and decided on Sendbird for that specific use case, implementing it from the ground up.
Yet, I've carefully looked at GetStream and its features, even though I don't have any hands-on experience with it, it's very similar to Sendbird.
I was rejected for the reason that I don't have experience with GetStream specifically.
In my opinion, for a Senior Engineer, this should not be a problem, as they can easily adapt to different requirements.
For me, this seemed more of an excuse rather than a valid reason.
They don't mention anywhere on their job descriptions that GetStream is a requirement and they aren't accepting any applicants without GetStream experience, so for me, it was just a waste of time.
