      Software Development Manager Interview

      17 Feb 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Brighton, MI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Collage.com (Brighton, MI) in Feb 2017

      Interview

The interview process was fairly straight forward. I receive an email asking for a phone interview shortly after filling out the online application (which included two small code tests). During the interview I was asked what drew me to the post. and then asked if I had any questions. After my questions it was straight to the live code test where I was asked to find a solution where two ajax requests run asynchronously and one MUST complete while the other one doesn't have to complete but the user should not wait more than a certain amount of time for it to complete before redirecting them. I completed this test with a comment from the interviewer saying "yes that would work but it's could be just a little bit faster" (we're talking 1-2 milliseconds) The following day I received an email saying that I wasn't a good fit. I not sure how they'd determine what kind of fit I was after asking me absolutely nothing of my history in managing a development team. In fact there were no questions about my qualifications or skills at all beyond the little coding test. Considering I have many years of experience with all the technologies used here, and successfully managing development teams, I'm not so sure this hiring process is the best practice. I'm still bewildered how how they knew I was not a bad fit after the coding test, considering they had my resume and was interested in me prior to the test where I produced a perfectly usable solution, even though it had next to nothing to do with the position I was interviewing for. It's unfortunate too, as I'm an extremely enthusiastic and loyal employee who would have given it my all.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The only thing I was asked for is to produce a solution to a problem in code.
