I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Clever in Jun 2021
Interview
Employee Referral. Spoke with an internal recruiter on the phone for 30 mins. Lovely convo.
Got moved straight to an architecture white boarding interview with two other developers. Very vague requirements to design a distributed system in a specific scenario.
Good conversation throughout, not particularly hard. Found out via email from the recruiter four days later that I did well, but not well enough. Apparently they're looking for SENIOR seniors only.
Waste of time, effort, and emotional energy.

Question 1
Design a distributed system with a database layer to handle a very particular scenario.
45 min call with hiring manager after standard HR phone screen. Depending on how you vibe with the hiring manager, they will progress you to a formal technical interview, which I was not offered to take.
I applied online. I interviewed at Clever (Phoneton, OH) in Aug 2021
Interview
A recruiter reached out to me expressing interest in response to my application. She was friendly, asked the usual questions that a recruiter asks, then told me that she would submit my profile to the CTO. The next day I received an automated rejection. The CTO recognized I’m not a fellow graduate of Harvard and didn’t give me a chance. If you look at their employees on LinkedIn, they’re all Ivy League graduates. I’m glad I didn’t get the job because I wouldn’t work for a discriminatory company. Guess you have to be clever to work for Clever.
