They do not use an ATS, so you apply by emailing them a resume and writing sample. I did just that and was contacted to schedule what I thought would be a phone interview with 2 people (that is what it was classified as). When the day arrived, I learned I would be speaking with only one person, and it was actually a phone screening. It lasted about 15 minutes and the woman I spoke with was very low energy and sounded disinterested when replying to my answers. She told me that they were still interviewing others, but the next steps included a formal application and an in-person interview.
A couple of days later I received an email instructing me to fill out a formal application. I thought this was strange (what was the point of the resume submission/"phone screen"?), but filled it out since I was still interested in CFF and the position. The application was almost like a background check as it requested your last 7 years of employment and other personal information such as my social security number. This was a little concerning considering all of this had to be emailed (and I had no idea how long they would hold on to my information), but I filled it out anyway.
I was ghosted after sending the formal application. I emailed the point of contact to check on my application and they mentioned that they would "check" with my interviewers and get back to me as soon as they had an answer. They never responded. I found this a bit disconcerting and unprofessional. I didn't bother with emailing them again, because it was obvious they were not interested in continuing the process, though they didn't seem capable of explicitly saying so.
Though they advertise certain positions as remote, it does seem like they would prefer for you to relocate to their Lake Forest, CA site. I am tempted to classify this experience as a waste of time, but I just viewed it as practice for the interviews I had after.
