      Windows Administrator Interview

      22 Sept 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Fort Lauderdale, FL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Chewy (Fort Lauderdale, FL) in Sept 2014

      Interview

Internal recruiter reached out to me. He was excellent. Responsive to emails, made himself available WHENEVER, had some technical ability so asked questions about what versions of what I have worked with and even threw in a trick question in there. Quickly advanced to COO interview, which went without a hitch. Next phase was technical, which wasn't very technical. Not many technical questions, just more of tell me about what you have worked on. The last phase was with the Director of Infrastructure which started working with the company that same day. We had a good talk, he asked more technical questions than the technical interview did. Along the way a few comments were made that made me uneasy. Things like "the position is there, it is what you make of it". Sounded like an unhappy employee. Usually during the interview process they make the place sound exciting. Overall, I felt like interview with director went smoothly. He asked some questions about troubleshooting storage at the VMWARE level and diagnosing a slow app server. After I got a call from the recruiter saying "we will pass". Claims I was solid engineer but they needed an architect level engineer. I have been designing solutions for clients for years. From 10 server closets to 300+ server rooms. From power and cooling to VMWARE and network design. Not sure what happened I wish they would have been more clear. At the end of the day I had an offer with much better benefits and solid career path which I accepted. I will also say, The final two interviews weren't smooth. The technical guys missed the call and didn't tell me so i was waiting forever outside my current job. So they rescheduled to after the weekend in the late afternoon.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

No unexpected questions. It is an interview. Most difficult was the question regarding SAN performance in VMWARE. Doing an analysis at the SAN level for iops/performance and using VMWARE built in tools was not enough.
