I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Chewy (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Interview
There was 1 HR phone screen, 2 phone interviews with managers, 3 hour panel interview, and 2 assignments. All my interviews went great, although I was surprised by the lack of preparation by some of the interviewers. One of them thought I was applying for an entirely different role and the other asked mainly yes/no questions without engaging in a conversation that naturally flows. Once I finished the panel interview I thought the process was complete but I was told I would need to complete a SQL test and a scenario based question in 48 hours - which is typical for this type of role.
The scenario based question was not clear at all, and was poorly written leading me to seek clarification. After working very hard to complete both the assignments and fully expecting an offer based on how well the interviews went, I was casually told by the recruiter they "have to pass". I was told I didn't have strong enough SQL skills, which was weird considering I only got one question wrong on the test. Plus, I was very upfront and transparent about my skill level from the beginning.
I found it absurd that despite having several successful interviews and doing seemingly well on the assignments, that my entire candidacy hinged on getting one question wrong in a SQL test. Overall, I felt like I wasted a lot of time and was left confused and let down.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Chewy (Boston, MA) in Dec 2022
