      Dev Manager Interview

      14 Aug 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Checkout.com (London, England) in Jul 2016

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter for a dev manager position and he arranged an interview. I did a phone screening interview and then the recruiter arranged a face to face. I had to take a day off work to attend it. The offices had no air conditioning and it was a hot day. Did first round of interview with 2 senior developers, nice guys, interview was quite abstract but a pleasant experience. Next round was with HR. She told me that they already found a dev manager and that this is for a senior developer position. i.e. it was a complete waste of my time. I declined to continue the interview process. They gave me the same story everyone gives, work really hard and you will have your own team really soon. They also told me that in a meritocratic environment I shouldn't expect to be rewarded to this position without hard work, i.e. the experience I currently have meant nothing to them. I was surprised they didn't offer me to get a graduate role then.

Dear candidate, Thanks for sharing your feedback, it is really appreciated. Indeed we are always doing our best to ensure a great candidate experience, and even more in the case where we are dealing with an intermediary. First of all we are sorry to hear your interview experience hasn't been that pleasant. This might be due to a miscommunication with the external recruiter and we apologise for this. On our side, despite the fact that the Development Manager role has been closed, your profile was interesting to consider and we sincerely thought we had a serious alternative to present you. Indeed, looking at our growing team and need for a senior developer with a potential to take over a team in a mid-term perspective we thought it was worth to present you this opportunity. Now we are sorry it has not been communicated this way to you, be it our fault or the external recruiter. So we are taking good note of this feedback and will ensure that our external recruiters are 100% up to date with our latest openings and cascade the information down to the candidates before they come for an interview. We indeed strongly believe that expectations should be aligned and our internal recruitment team will ensure that this is the case in the future. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and all the best in your job search. Kind regards, The HR Team
