      Copywriter Interview

      8 Jun 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Niles, IL
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Celtic Chicago (Niles, IL) in May 2016

      Interview

No red tape. I was invited to interview with their CEO and VP of Advertising not too long after submitting my resume. Good interview with two very personable people who made me feel very welcomed. The interview was conducted in an open and friendly format with no egos by two people who genuinely seemed to love what they do and where they do it; very knowledgeable and well seasoned ad people.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

I've worked on Ford and the CEO asked me what I thought first attracts car buyers to purchasing a particular car.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Celtic Chicago (Niles, IL) in Jun 2016

      Interview

Warning: Interviewing with Celtic is a Total Waste of Time! I came all the way out from the southwest suburbs to interview with their CEO and VP of Advertising. These two people spent more time talking to each other than they did interviewing me. The job description from the CareerBuilder posting was so brief and vague that I didn’t have much to go on. They gave me absolutely no insight into the full time, mid-level copywriter position or the agency, and completely avoided answering any relevant questions. I got the definite impression that they didn’t really have a clear idea of who they wanted for this position. They barely looked at my portfolio and came off as very unknowledgeable. I was asked to follow up with the CEO in a couple of weeks. I tried but she didn’t even have the common professional courtesy of replying. The experience was an absolute waste of my time, fuel, and effort. They should conduct phone interviews first so that candidates don't make a long wasted trip. Now they are posting the position through a recruiter (24/Seven). Only now it’s changed to a junior level freelance copywriter position. Telling from their former employee’s negative reviews, I think I “dodged a bullet.”

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They asked me nothing of any relevance and skirted around every question I asked about the agency and the position.

Thank you for your review about your Celtic Chicago interview. We are sorry you feel that your experience was not what you expected. We try very hard to answer any questions candidates have regarding the position for which they are interviewing and always love to review portfolios. Regarding an email sent directly to the CEO, we apologize if it was overlooked. Candidates should always feel free to follow up with our HR manager, who is better able to respond to inquiries. HR uses a variety of services to find qualified candidates, in fact, the full-time, in-house copywriter position was filled by a candidate from 24/seven. Again, thank you for interviewing at Celtic. We wish you the best with your career development.
