This role was advertise as remote. I said 3 separate times that I was looking for full time remote and I was told it was fine. Spoiler alert: it wasn't.
Interview process had 5 steps:
1. Phone screen with HR
2. Coffee chat about role
3. Take home coding challenge (Spring Boot focused)
4. 1 hour call presenting/demoing challenge solution
5. Final meeting with senior management
I made it past step 4 and had the 5th interview scheduled when I was informed that the role was now hybrid, after I told them very clearly I was not able to relocate. Keep in mind, the interview process had been going on for 3 WEEKS at this point.
By this point, I had put SEVERAL hours of my personal time interviewing and completing their take home assessment.
To call this unprofessional is putting it lightly. This was a complete insult to my personal time.
At the end of the day, I'm glad I was not hired on to a company that not only shows a lack of respect toward candidates, but also have antiquated and useless in-office requirements being enforced by out of touch senior leadership.
