      Interview

3 step process, first is online English editing 15 question test (you earn >10 you get moved to next step of editing powerpoint slides). The second step from a scientific reviewer perspective, I honestly felt like it was designed coming across as being invited to a wedding whose bride is missing. They have vague guidelines on editing and expectation of holding scientific knowledge (which I obviously had way beyond their expectations). The next step, you get moved on the basis of absence of point and transparency system , for step 1 which is clear. The slides and contents they provide are already online with full of errors, published posters content with some tweaks. Honestly, if you are an intelligent scientific credential pool of candidate audience "DONT waste time" applying as its not worth it.

      Interview

The interview process was straightforward and sensible. There were two rounds of testing for my command over English grammar and comprehension. The edits are usually provided for authors that learned English as a second language (ESL). I was informed that I had passed both rounds and was offered an interview. They provided a draft contract to review and discuss with the interviewer ahead of time. At this point, I was already hired if I remained interested following our discussion.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Cactus Communications (New Delhi) in Jan 2021

      Interview

I applied online, process took a month. Usually, they take 7+ days to update. They don't reply to emails. HR was really nice and polite. First, a 15 mcq question test was conducted. Some of the questions were wrongly phrased and two questions even had no correct answers. Based on that, second round, which was to edit 3 horribly written paragraphs from random journals, was conducted, it took a lot of time to comprehend and edit it extensively. They said they'll get back to me within 7 days. I got a call from HR after 14 days when i e-mailed them for a update. They said i cleared the test, asked me some basic questions, and said that they will get to me with the interview details within a week. After a week, i got an email having the details of the interview, it was conducted on MS team. The person who conducted my interview, directly told me they went through my test, and the job they are offering requires exceptional skills, which i don't meet. After that they asked some basic questions. They tried to guide me, which was nice. I wasn't offered a letter, felt like they could've told me that before conducting the interview if it was pre-decided.

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself? What are your salary expectations? Why do you want to work as an editor? Why aren't you pursuing further studies? Why aren't you looking for a job in the field you graduated in? What do you understand by the job responsibilities?

      Cactus Communications response
      5y
Hello, I am sorry that you had a disappointing experience. I acknowledge the delays in responding to you, and I know how frustrating that can be. I have already made certain changes which will ensure that future communication with candidates is prompt. I also acknowledge your feedback with respect to the interview process and I am discussing the same with the Hiring Manager to ensure that it does not recur. With regard to the test, some of the sentences in the test are phrased incorrectly to be representative of the kind of material our editors regularly work with. Our tests have been thoroughly vetted but I am passing on your feedback to our test-creation team to be doubly sure. Please feel free to write to me at enid.mendonca@cactusglobal.com if you would like to discuss anything further. Regards, Enid Mendonca Associate, Editorial Talent Acquisition
