      Interview

I applied for the job through a online job site and took an english test of a few questions. This test includes 15 questions and to assess your knowledge of English grammar, comprehension, and common conventions in scientific writing. Then after two days they communicated me over telephone and was asked to take an editorial test. They sent me a word document which I have to edit withing two days. Which I completed. After three days they send me an email announcing that my work did not meet their benchmark. They have a good policy that you can take the grammar test in three months again.

      Academic Editor Interview

      4 Dec 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Mumbai
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Cactus Communications (Mumbai) in Oct 2015

      Interview

Initially, the interview process was very professional. Two online editing tests, followed by 2-3 rounds of personal interview. I cleared all the technical rounds, the test and the discussion with the team lead of that department. The most frustrating moment for me during the interview was being asked personal questions about family planning. This had nothing to do with my professional life. Overall, the interviews were very unprofessional. They made me wait for long hours. All the three interviewers seemed happy with my performance. But when it was time for the result, I was rejected, despite clearing all the technical rounds, with a silly reason that the HR has an apprehension that I may not like this job over a period of time, despite the fact that I had made it clear to them that I'm here for a long term professional relationship with this company. The entire process for which I worked day and night, felt fake because this was my dream job. I had been aspiring to join this company since I moved to Mumbai. But just because of some apprehensions, I couldn't fulfill this dream. This company only gives hope as you clear all the rounds and then give you the silliest possible reason for not clearing it. Personally, I'm very disheartened because I really looked up to the values of this company from the research I had done. Their work ethics appealed to me. But this interview was an eye-opener for me. I hope no one falls prey to such kind of false hopes given by such fake companies.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They kept asking me if I'm planning for a baby.

Dear candidate, Thank you for your candid feedback. We understand your concerns and appreciate the patience you’d shown throughout the selection process. Yes, you had cleared all technical tests and rounds; however, you were not at par for certain aspects we consider for determining if a candidate is an organization/culture fit. We apologize if this was not clarified to you earlier. Further, probing on certain personal aspects during the selection process is done at most organizations in the best interests of the candidate and the organization. It’s just that this might have been a bit more apparent at CACTUS – we prefer not to beat around the bush and come to the point directly. Lastly, we’d like to clarify that the selection process for this position in particular tends to get long drawn at times, given the critical nature of the role. Hence, we try our best to keep candidates updated about all developments throughout the selection process. We apologize if we haven’t done so in your case. That said, your feedback is valuable to us, and we’ll look into further refining our processes.
